Job summary

Alberta Health Services is seeking a Health Care Aide to work as part of a multidisciplinary team across home, community and facility care. You will assist with daily living activities, support patient comfort and safety, and collaborate closely with nurses and care staff in a setting that includes a northern allowance and travel reimbursement.

The role requires active registration or eligibility with CLHA and completion of the HCA certificate within 18 months.

Qualifications

• Proof of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide personal assistance and support daily living activities for patients in home, community, or facilities.
• Assist nurses with routine care including hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation and safety.
• Observe, document and report patient mood, health and wellbeing to the care team.

Job description

Northern Allowance:In addition to a competitive rate of pay, Alberta Health Services currently has a Northern Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $6,300. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.Travel Expense Reimbursement:Permanent and temporary employees working in excess of one (1) year whose work sites are above the 57th parallel are also eligible to receive an annual reimbursement of personal travel expenses to an annual maximum of $1,235. Eligible employees will be reimbursed for the cost of one (1) round trip, per calendar year, to any destination within Alberta. Travel must originate from a community above the 57th parallel to any destination within Alberta and cannot be carried over.

Description:

As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multidisciplinary team, providing personal assistance by supporting activities of daily living and delivering support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. In this role, you will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers across the continuum of care in home, community, and health care facilities. You will assist nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation, and safety needs; assist with organized activities or programs; and observe and report on patients' mood, health, and wellbeing. Working under the supervision of a regulated health professional, you will assist in maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors, while supporting effective communication with patients and health care professionals.PLEASE NOTE: Until a new hire provides proof of HCA certification, they will be paid at the uncertified pay grade in accordance with the AUPE AUX Collective Agreement.
