Salary: $42.40 per hour (approx. $77,162.74 per annum), 35 hours/week

Settlement Allowance: $20,907.43 per annum

Responsibilities

The Health and Safety Training Officer reports to the Occupational Health and Safety Manager and is responsible for:

  • Designing, developing, and delivering comprehensive health and safety training programs across the organization.
  • Providing reports to the Health and Safety Manager and maintaining training records.
  • Ensuring employees, contractors, and vendors are educated on workplace safety protocols, regulatory compliance, and emergency procedures.
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of training programs, auditing performance, and implementing improvements.
  • Conducting inspections, completing required departmental documentation, and submitting reports to WSCC.
Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or College Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Education, Training and Development, or a related field.
  • Or a diploma or certification in Occupational Health and Safety with extensive training and instructional experience.
  • 2 years of experience in developing and delivering health and safety training, preferably in a municipal, public sector, or industrial environment.
  • Experience designing and delivering both in‑person and virtual training programs.
  • Experience with training compliance and certification management.
  • Experience in developing and implementing health and safety programs, including SOPs, policies, and training.
Assets
  • Experience in the municipal or public sector, particularly in a training or safety‑focused role.
  • Proficiency in developing e‑learning modules or experience with Learning Management Systems for tracking training.
  • Experience in emergency response training or crisis management training.
  • Bilingual or multilingual abilities can be an asset.
Certifications (preferred)
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Occupational Health and Safety Technician (OHST), NCSO, or similar.
  • Train‑the‑Trainer certification or equivalent experience in instructional design.
  • First Aid, CPR, AED Certification required.
  • Additional relevant certifications in safety training, e.g., WHMIS Instructor or OSHA Outreach Trainer.
Additional Requirements
  • Canadian Citizenship or Landed Immigrant Status.
  • Clear Criminal and Vulnerable Sectors Record Check (every 3 years by RCMP).
  • Ability to communicate in English, both written and oral.
