Title: Healthy & Safety Officer

Job Details:

  • Pay: $30/hr
  • Shifts/Hours: Daytime - Monday to Friday
  • Location: Gatineau, QC and Ottawa, ON

We're currently hiring for an Experienced Health and Safety Officer on behalf of a Construction client of ours located in Gatineau, QC. Our client has been growing their business since 2002 and is on the move again! You'll be working under the direction of 34+ years of building experts! Within this role, you will take lead in the smooth integration of health and safety protocols and programs on project sites across the Ottawa/Gatineau area. We are looking for a bilingual candidate with 3-5 years of direct experience in H&S administration, including carrying out inspections, producing inspection reports, and following up on any action items. As lead, the successful candidate will own the position and, together with senior management, develop and increase the presence of the H&S department and its critical role on sites.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with project team to develop project-specific hazard assessments
  • Work with site teams to present site orientations and lead regular toolbox meetings
  • Prepare safety boards to ensure all required postings and safety kits are up to date for both Ontario and Quebec projects
  • Drop-off/Pick-up, log and track locations and inventory safety boards. Clean and ready boards for next project
  • Lead and participate in workplace audits and investigations of safety concerns, incidents, and accidents
  • Lead and participate in workplace inspections to ensure that equipment, materials, and production processes do not present a safety or health hazard to employees
  • Develop and implement health and safety programs, including standard operating procedures, policies, and training to mitigate risk, optimize worker's health and safety, and foster a positive occupational health and safety culture
  • Initiate enforcement procedures on workplaces contravening organization and government health and safety standards and regulations
  • Provide training to employers, employees, and the public on issues of workplace safety

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of construction safety regulations
  • Attention to detail
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Educational background in Occupational Health and Safety
  • Knowledge of the COR accreditation program
  • Registration with the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals (BCRSP) is a bonus
