Job description

Our client a full service general contracting and project management firm is hiring a Health & Safety and Environment Manager to join their growing team for their Southwestern Ontario construction sites. They specialize in the construction management and design-build delivery methods employing only the highest quality construction professionals who approach each project with professionalism honesty and integrity.

With a strong attention to detail and a proven safety record the successful applicant will bring Safety Officer experience with a General Contractor.

Health & Safety
  • Keep a thoroughly detailed log on statistics and records and monitor accident / incident frequencies and safety violations; assist in investigations and complete related documentation.
  • Assist in the planning and startup of new projects with respect to safety issues.
  • Inventory safety related training of workers; conduct new worker safety orientations.
  • Regularly monitor safety compliance of workers and subcontractors; conduct site inspections and institute remedial action if required.
  • Work with the Site Superintendents to perform Site Specific Hazard Analysis at the start of jobs.
  • High Risk Hazard Assessments: Work with Site Superintendent and Trade Contractors to perform a thorough assessment of the tasks at hand.
  • Ensure completion of regular site inspection reports from field management; note resolution to any deficiencies or actions taken on the report.
  • Conduct field level safety meetings, toolbox talks and health and safety informational awareness; hold Quarterly Health and Safety Meetings for the Company.
  • Monumental in our companies pursuit of COR Certification in the administration documentation and management of the Company’s COR program.
  • Keep Senior Leadership Team current on the status of any issue(s) that may impact on the work being performed.
  • Work with Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to better understand Trend Analysis and make decisions identifying risk areas for the Team and Company.
  • Work with the Estimating team and SLT on major bid submissions to ensure H&S strategy is captured.
Environment
  • Work with the Operations Team to investigate detail and develop a waste management system to ensure it reduces our environmental footprint.
  • Review and discuss with the SLT options for further sustainability measures to include or consider with our companies goals and vision.
  • Be an instrumental part in our participation with Green Economy London and other key groups.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5 years of field safety experience preferably in a construction environment
  • Construction Safety Officer (CHSO or NCSO) is a must
  • Relevant Post-Secondary education in HSE is an asset
  • Possess the demonstrated ability to motivate self and others
  • Strong mentoring skills
  • Good working knowledge of local government Health & Safety Acts Policies Regulations and Industry Standards as they apply to the construction industry
