Job summary

A regional management company is looking for a Health and Safety Advisor to guide and assess the Occupational Health and Safety Program. The ideal candidate will have at least four years of experience in industrial construction, familiarity with OHS regulations, and the ability to adapt to dynamic environments. Responsibilities include incident record maintenance, compliance monitoring, and safety education.

  • Retention of a valid class five driver’s license.

What you will do

Det'on Cho Management LP (DCMLP) strives to identify unique opportunities and explore niches in traditional and modern northern economies. Reporting to the Director, Health & Safety, the Health and Safety Advisor is key in guiding, influencing, and assessing the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Program to ensure its effectiveness and compliance

A Day in the Life
  • Maintain records of incidents and accidents, including settled and contested claims, and promote best practices within the organization.
  • Ensure proper use of protective clothing and equipment to safeguard worker health and Safety.
  • Respond to emergencies and provide support as required for operations.
  • Investigate injuries, incidents, and near misses while promptly developing corrective actions.
  • Assist in Task Hazard Analysis (THA), Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHA), and weekly safety and toolbox meetings.
  • Inspect work sites, facilities and equipment to identify and correct hazards.
  • Ensure adequate and measurable corrective actions are implemented whenever deficiencies are identified.
  • Coach supervisors and employees on safety initiatives.
  • Monitor adherence to safe work procedures across all work areas.
  • Advise workers and supervise them on potential health and safety hazards they may encounter in the workplace.
  • Provide clear instructions, both written and verbal, on the precautions to be taken for employee protection.
  • Be familiar with site Emergency Response plans, capability, and processes, and be able to provide guidance / recommendations.
  • Lead and evaluate workplace inspections and conduct accident / incident investigations.
  • Enforce company safety policies, procedures, and OHS regulations.
  • Identify issues, refer them to management, and implement corrective actions.
  • Lead and facilitate safety meetings.
  • Attend and participate in daily Toolbox Talks to support the team.
  • Conduct regular workplace safety inspections.
  • Analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) for the OHS Program and report on findings.
  • Monitor and promote hazard recognition and control in the workplace.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
What You Bring
  • Minimum four (4) years of progressive experience within industrial construction. Knowledge of the NWT Mining Regulations is considered an asset.
  • Must have completed NCSO or an Occupational health and Safety certificate / diploma from an accredited institution.
  • Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Legislation.
  • Retention of a valid class five (5) driver’s license is required
  • Knowledge of MS Office, specifically Word, Excel, and Outlook, is required
  • Strong leadership abilities to guide teams effectively.
  • Ability to adapt and thrive in dynamic environments.
  • Willingness to work overtime when required.
