Job summary

A leading mining company is seeking a Head / Deputy General Manager – Mining Operations to oversee safety and production at their open-pit iron ore site in Labrador. This critical role involves both planning and on-site supervision, managing cross-functional teams, and ensuring compliance. Ideal candidates will have 17–20+ years of relevant experience and a Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering. Competitive compensation and a FIFO rotation structure are offered.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering.
  • 17–20+ years of experience in open-pit mining (Iron Ore preferred).
  • Minimum 7 years in a leadership role managing cross-disciplinary teams.
  • Strong background in high-tonnage, large-scale operations.
  • Proven record of achieving safety, production, and cost targets.
  • French communication skills are an asset.
  • Experience managing contractors and internal stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Lead overall mine site operations including pit development, production, safety, and reporting.
  • Design and implement weekly, monthly, and long-term mine plans.
  • Coordinate with Supervisors, Surveyors, and Drill & Blast teams.
  • Design and monitor drill/blast patterns and performance.
  • Oversee pit and waste dump designs and ensure compliance.
  • Drive cost control and monitor project execution timelines.
  • Lead transformation and process improvement initiatives.
  • Develop and monitor KPIs, audits, and technical reports.
  • Ensure alignment with environmental, safety, and statutory requirements.
  • Liaise with senior leadership on strategic planning and business objectives.
