A leading mining company is seeking a Head / Deputy General Manager – Mining Operations to oversee safety and production at their open-pit iron ore site in Labrador. This critical role involves both planning and on-site supervision, managing cross-functional teams, and ensuring compliance. Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering.
- 17–20+ years of experience in open-pit mining (Iron Ore preferred).
- Minimum 7 years in a leadership role managing cross-disciplinary teams.
- Strong background in high-tonnage, large-scale operations.
- Proven record of achieving safety, production, and cost targets.
- French communication skills are an asset.
- Experience managing contractors and internal stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Lead overall mine site operations including pit development, production, safety, and reporting.
- Design and implement weekly, monthly, and long-term mine plans.
- Coordinate with Supervisors, Surveyors, and Drill & Blast teams.
- Design and monitor drill/blast patterns and performance.
- Oversee pit and waste dump designs and ensure compliance.
- Drive cost control and monitor project execution timelines.
- Lead transformation and process improvement initiatives.
- Develop and monitor KPIs, audits, and technical reports.
- Ensure alignment with environmental, safety, and statutory requirements.
- Liaise with senior leadership on strategic planning and business objectives.
