Job summary

Foothills Nordic Ski Club in Calgary, Alberta, seeks a Head Coach to lead five development programs and supervise a high performance group of twenty skiers. You will manage fifteen volunteer coaches and coordinate on-snow training across programs, with travel and winter hours inherent to the role.

The club offers a base salary competitive with national team coaching salaries, plus a performance bonus up to 15% of base. Start date negotiable; deadline to apply is June 18, 2003.

• NCCP Level 4 coaching pathway with national team progression.
• Experience with national/international competition and team development is valued.

Foothills Nordic Ski Club is Canada’s National Club Champion for both 2002 and 2003. Foothills is located in Calgary Alberta, and has been a development club for 40 years. Our commitment to athlete and coaching development has resulted in many National Team members and Canadian Champions. Our commitment is to excellence in skiing, through excellence in coaching.

Our drive for excellence provides a head coach with a very challenging job, exceptional support, and a strong opportunity for advancement. As Head Coach you will be responsible for 5 distinct development programs and 15 volunteer coaches. This includes lead responsibility for our High Performance group of 20 skiers, and on snow contribution to our Masters Training Group, Youth Training Group, and Racing Rabbit programs.

The job involves travel, long hours during the winter, weekend work, and the joy of dealing with a couple of hundred people who have a passion for skiing! If this prospect excites you we are interested!

Qualifications:

FNSC has sponsored and successfully developed our last 2 head coaches through their Level 4 NCCP into National Team assignments. An individual with a desire to develop and advance in a coaching career is more important than specific coaching qualifications. We do require:

• – International racing experience;
• – Exceptional personal skiing technique
• – Strong interpersonal skills;
• – An ability to demonstrate either through education or practical experience mastery of training plan development and application of sport science to developing and master skiers.
