Job summary

UBC Okanagan Campus Wellness seeks a Drug Checking Technician to support our Harm Reduction project. The role involves confidential drug checking using FTIR, data entry, interpreting results, and providing guidance on safe use and risk reduction to project staff and community partners.

The position collaborates with the Harm Reduction Project Coordinator and PI to ensure accurate reporting, compliance with protocols, and timely deliverables for a contract focused on drug checking and public

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree with additional training in a related field and a minimum two years of related experience.
  • Knowledge of FTIR testing protocols and interpretation of drug checking results is essential.
  • Experience with counselling and harm reduction information is preferred.
  • Experience with collecting and managing confidential data is preferred.
  • Experience with writing manuscripts and reports is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide confidential drug checking using FTIR and other testing materials.
  • Interpret and communicate results and provide confidential guidance on safe use and risk reduction.
  • Maintain FTIR equipment and ensure secure storage on campus.
  • Ensure safe handling and disposal of substance samples.
  • Assist with data collection, entry, and organization according to protocols.
  • Follow COVID-19 safety protocols on campus and community sites.
  • Communicate with project team and community partners on project issues.
  • Participate in team meetings and report preparation.
