Job summary

Ciena Corporation in Ottawa is seeking an Hardware (PCBA) Design and Verification Intern for a four-month winter term starting January 2027. You will contribute to design verification, testing, and documentation while working with cutting-edge circuit packs.

Qualifications

• Actively enrolled in a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Good communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
• Familiarity with lab test equipment (oscilloscopes, analyzers and test sets).
• Understanding of high speed signaling, transmission lines, digital and analog design.
• Experience designing and debugging hardware.
• Experience with PCB schematic capture and layout tools.

Responsibilities

• Perform hardware test and debug of new and existing circuit boards.
• Manage board programming and prototype inventory.
• Perform thorough design verification to validate functionality, performance, operating margins, and robustness.
• Conduct signal integrity measurements, thermal stress testing, and component qualification.
• Contribute to documentation such as Design Specification and Test Plans.
• Work in Cadence CAD tools (Concept/Allegro).
