The Guitar Teacher will be required to work Tuesdays from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Music School, the Guitar Teacher is responsible for providing music education to children and youth primarily from the Regent Park, Moss Park and South Cabbagetown community.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide an enjoyable and educational experience of music for every student.
  • Monitor student progress and adjust teaching methods and materials when necessary.
  • Encourage and guide students to prepare adequately for RCM exams.
  • Attend all scheduled lessons, classes, and/or rehearsals in a punctual manner (i.e., arrive before student).
  • Notify the Music School Director/Manager of any student's learning challenges, physical conditions, or other problems that may be related to violence, illicit drug use, crime, or other factors in their home and neighbourhood environment, as well as problem attendance, etc.
  • Consult with parents on a regular basis.
  • Prepare students for competitions, public events, RCM exams and recitals.
  • Encourage students to take advantage of the school's resources such as other lessons available, camps, concert tickets, etc.
  • Adhere to all agency guidelines and policies; attend appropriate staff meetings and workshops when possible.
  • Maintain weekly attendance records of students.
  • Request any necessary teaching materials.
  • Notify the Music School Director/Manager of teaching absences as much in advance as possible.
  • Communicate with parents and keep them up-to-date on progress of students.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Prior experience teaching Guitar.
  • Post-secondary education in music.
  • Musical and teaching ability.
  • Knowledge of and experience applying the principles of teaching children and youth will be considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage, communicate, work with, and maintain relationships with people from diverse cultural and social backgrounds.
  • Able to teach various styles of music and knowledge of different approaches to teaching music.
  • Personal commitment to practicing high standards of professional conduct and ethics.
  • Basic computer literacy and skills.
  • Strong written and verbal English language communication skills; fluency in additional languages relevant to the communities of service will be considered an asset.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a strong ability to exchange knowledge.
  • Must be qualified to work in Canada legally for the employer.
  • Able to provide a Vulnerable Sector Screening check with a ‘Clear’ or satisfactory result that meets the operational requirements of the Agency.
Working Conditions

The Guitar Teacher is required to work Tuesday's from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
