Onsite - This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Oshawa Assembly on a full-time basis.

The Role

The Role:

The Packaging Engineer will be responsible for providing direction, coordination, and follow-up for all aspects of containers for the plant. Responsible for studying and planning operations for the effective utilization of personnel, material, equipment, and facilities where decisions are made within the limits of general practices and policies. Work independently under general direction of a supervisor. Work involves a considerable amount of perception and initiative in order to make decisions. The selected candidate will provide Packaging Engineering support to Operations and Lead cross-functional teams on significant projects to improve processes that affect Quality, Productivity, and Cost.

What You\'ll Do (Responsibilities)
  • Interact with Global Supply Chain, Containerization, Quality, Operations, Logistics, Controls engineering, and supplier(s)
  • Perform Packaging Engineering testing methods and processes to improve Quality
  • Assist in establishing operational methods and work standards using various measurement techniques
  • Analyzes existing operations and proposes cost justified improvements
  • Optimize use of floor space, materials, personnel, and equipment using Lean Manufacturing Strategies
  • Identify and coordinate implementation of density improvements
  • Manage buy-off processes with all affected parties within the plant for new and modified containers
  • Coordinate with development and Implementation of packaging specifications for current and new product programs
  • Responsibility for leading Short-Lead Time initiatives that pertain to packaging
  • Responsibility for supplier shipping label compliance
  • Act as back-up to plant Dangerous Goods Coordinator
  • Oversee management of container loops for all returnable containers
  • Manage damaged/ repair process for all returnable containers
  • Assist in management of containments related to container dunnage changes/ repacks/ sorts
Additional Job Description
  • Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications):
  • Successfully obtained a Bachelor’s degree with a major in engineering, packaging engineering or possesses equivalent experience
  • Strong knowledge of Lean Materials Strategies
  • 2+ years of packaging engineer experience
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
  • Experience in packaging testing standards
  • Ability to travel as needed on a local scale
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects, effective project planning in terms of resources, strategies, cost, and time, with ability to meet project timelines
  • Relatively high level of analytical ability where problems are complex
  • Knowledge of basic manufacturing and assembly processes
  • Knowledge of Workplace Safety Systems pertaining to Safe Handling, Stacking, Storage of containers
  • Demonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related area required
  • Proficient in Dangerous Goods/ Haz-Mat material requirements
What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
  • Packaging Engineer with Industrial Engineering experience or interest preferred
  • Knowledge of computer software as it pertains to engineering preferred
  • Previous Packaging Engineer assignment preferred
  • Dangerous Goods experience
