This role provides enterprise-wide leadership for mine operations planning, connecting strategy and execution across Fortescue’s mining operations. You’ll lead a team of planning, engineering, and technical professionals to deliver integrated operational plans that drive safe, efficient, and sustainable outcomes across multiple sites.

Regular travel to our mine sites is a key part of this role.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and delivery of integrated planning strategies that enable safe, sustainable, and efficient operations.
  • Oversee operational planning across all Fortescue mine sites, ensuring alignment with business plans, budgets, and strategic targets.
  • Drive standardisation and governance across technical and planning processes, improving transparency, accountability, and performance.
  • Collaborate closely with Operations, Technical Services, Projects, and Finance to optimise resource use and operational readiness.
  • Champion innovation in operations planning systems, analytics, and digital technologies to support smarter decision-making.
  • Build organisational capability through leadership, mentoring, and development of multidisciplinary teams.
  • Represent operations planning within the executive and operational leadership teams, providing insight and guidance on planning performance and risk.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering, geology, or related discipline.
  • Extensive experience in large-scale open-pit mining operations.
  • Experience in senior leadership roles overseeing operations planning or technical services across multiple operations is essential
  • Demonstrated success managing large multidisciplinary technical teams (50+) and multi-million-dollar operational or study budgets.
  • Extensive experience in life-of-mine and strategic planning, resource development, and project study governance.
  • Proven ability to integrate mine operations planning, technical, and commercial drivers into cohesive business strategies.
  • Strong exposure to capital project development, investment analysis, and long-term business planning.
  • Experience leading digital transformation or innovation in mine planning and data analytics.
