Job summary

WSP is seeking a seasoned Archaeology Group Manager to lead our Lower Mainland team, based in BC with offices in Vancouver, Burnaby and Langley. You will guide a 15+-person team, providing senior project management and technical leadership to diverse archaeology projects, while advancing business development and client relationships.

You will partner with the Archaeology Director and EcoEIA VP to ensure financial success, uphold safety standards, and drive growth across BC and Yukon.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Archaeology or Anthropology; 10+ years of consulting experience in archaeology.
  • Registered Professional Consulting Archaeologist in good standing.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills with ability to mentor teams.
  • Proven track record in business development and fostering client relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a 15+-person archaeology team across BC/ Yukon.
  • Support project managers and provide team leadership within DOA delegation.
  • Oversee cost estimates, client deliverables, and utilization targets.
  • Guide career development, performance reviews, and mentorship.
  • Participate in HR activities including hiring and onboarding processes.
  • Monitor financial performance and help implement improvements.
  • Communicate policies and ensure team adherence to HSE standards.
  • Foster collaboration across WSP Archaeology and other lines of business.
  • Lead monthly archaeology team meetings and contribute to business development.

The Opportunity

WSP is currently seeking a Group Manager to lead our Lower Mainland Archaeology team, part of the Heritage business in BC and Yukon. Reporting to the Director of Archaeology, this is a dual role where you will provide both leadership of a 15+-person team and senior level technical and project management expertise to support a variety of projects that range in type, size and complexity. You will join a growing team of archaeologists, based in the Lower Mainland of BC, with offices in Vancouver, Burnaby and Langley. As Group Manager, you will play a critical role in delivering our strategic objectives and continue to build and grow our heritage related services.

  • You will support project managers and take on team lead responsibilities including:
    • Review of cost estimates and other client deliverables within your assigned delegation of authority (DOA).
    • Supporting employees to prioritize and organize their work to meet utilization targets and project commitments.
    • Supporting employees with career development and performance, including team mentorship.
  • Participate in human resources activities throughout the year, including annual performance and salary reviews, hiring and recruitment processes, and employee onboarding and offboarding.
  • Working with the Archaeology Director and EcoEIA Vice President, support the financial success of the team by monitoring financial results and working to implement changes or improvements to achieve desired financial results.
  • Communicate company policies and mandates as provided by leadership or elsewhere to the Archaeology team and oversee their application if necessary.
  • Foster collaboration across the Archaeology team and other WSP Business Lines.
  • Inspire team commitment to our WSP Guiding Principles and Vision.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to Archaeology team project managers.
  • Participate in business development activities to support growth of the Archaeology team and strengthen client relationships.
  • Lead monthly group meetings for the Archaeology team.
Skills That You'll Bring To WSP
  • Undergraduate degree in Archaeology or Anthropology with at least 10 years of relevant consulting experience.
  • 10 years of experience or more in a consulting environment with a focus on archaeology projects.
  • Registered Professional Consulting Archaeologist in good standing.
  • Self‑motivated leader with excellent inter‑personal and communication skills and the ability to work in a collaborative, team environment.
  • Proven track record of successful business development, and of fostering client relationships.
  • Strong demonstration of health and safety leadership.
  • Commitment to technical excellence and ability to write proposals and technical reports.
  • Strategic and business planning experience.
  • Financial, forecasting and budgeting experience.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities. Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate positive relationships with Indigenous groups.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to prioritize and manage deadline pressure, ambiguity and change and the ability to build partnerships across disciplines and areas of expertise.

Compensation
  • AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $132,700 – $175,800
  • MB & ON: $121,100 – $166,700
  • NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $119,900 – $159,200

The final salary awarded for this role may vary from the above range based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs. The wage range provided in this job posting may be subject to change for business purposes.
