Overview
Onsite – The Production Group Leader will report to the Oshawa Assembly plant on a full‑time basis. The role is part of a team focused on safety, quality, and continuous improvement in the production of Chevrolet Silverado trucks. The successful candidate will help shape plant processes, support a diverse and inclusive workplace, and drive toward our vision of Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions, and Zero Congestion.
What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)
- Ensure compliance with all OSHAWA work instructions, policies, procedures, and established practices.
- Assess staffing levels to meet daily production targets.
- Provide job instruction training (JIT) to team members.
- Monitor work completed by hourly team members and address performance issues.
- Advise the Leader of issues that arise during the shift per requirements.
- Clarify safety issues and lead team members to modify work habits where required.
- Support department operations to achieve safety, quality, efficiency, and cost objectives.
- Update and utilize business boards to handle daily, weekly, and monthly business metrics.
- Mentor team leaders on proficiency.
- Utilize the Global Manufacturing System (GMS) to drive continuous improvement in all areas of production.
- Administer provisions of the Collective Agreement affecting day‑to‑day work and work with Employee Relations to resolve issues.
- Track and record scrap, focusing on mitigation and prevention procedures.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Practical and technical problem‑solving skills.
- Demonstrated understanding of COMMWIP or Lean Six Sigma waste elimination.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to manage both employee and equipment budgets.
- Understanding of plant monitoring and control training.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to coach and support team members to develop their full potential.
- Strong problem‑solving and organizational skills.
- Willingness to work any assigned shift, weekend, as required.
What Can Give You a Competitive Advantage (Preferred Qualifications)
- University degree, college diploma, trade certificate, or equivalent maintenance/industrial experience.
- Minimum two years of leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with labor relations/UNIFOR – Labour Relations Training.
- Knowledge of Global Manufacturing System (GMS) and plant scorecard metrics.
- Understanding of the layered audit process.
- All required safety training under GWSS.
- Experience in SAP.
