The Profile We Are Looking For

The ideal candidate has an underwriting background and wants to broaden their experience into account management. You are organized, analytical, comfortable managing multiple files and deadlines, and confident communicating with customers and insurers. You do not need to be able to produce a full quote or renewal on your own; our underwriters handle that. You do need to understand what goes into one.

Relevant Backgrounds May Include
  • Group benefits underwriter or underwriting assistant;
  • Group benefits account coordinator or account manager;
  • Insurance or employee benefits professional with exposure to renewals or pricing;
  • Financial services professional with experience in insurance analysis
Essential Responsibilities
Quote and Renewal Support
  • Gather and organize the data needed to prepare quotes and renewals, including census, premium, claims, utilization, and plan experience information.
  • Coordinate with group benefits providers and our underwriting team to obtain the information required for quotes.
  • Track upcoming renewals and follow up so documents and data arrive on time.
  • Apply a working understanding of claims ratios and target loss ratios to help estimate the approximate direction of rates for the coming year, in support of the underwriting team.
  • Refine and format spreadsheets and presentations for quotes and renewals, with underwriting leading the analysis and pricing.
  • Review insurer experience reports and flag discrepancies for follow-up.
Customer Coordination and Onboarding
  • Act as a point of contact for current and new customers, coordinating their questions and requests.
  • Discussing plan details or answering coverage‑related questions with customers must be done by a licensed individual, so the scope of this customer contact will depend on licensing status.
  • Obtain the documents, renewals, and information needed to prepare quotes and bring new customers on board.
  • Work with underwriting and the administrative team to make sure every step of onboarding a new customer is completed, including transitions from other insurers.
  • Prepare insurer submissions and follow up on pricing proposals.
  • Prepare customer communication materials and support employee enrolment activities.
Internal and Insurer Collaboration
  • Liaise with insurers, underwriters, and service providers on pricing, plan terms, claims experience, and implementation.
  • Work closely with underwriting, administration, and customer service teams.
  • Maintain complete, accurate, and compliant client records and follow‑up documentation.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of two years of experience in underwriting, underwriting support, group benefits, insurance, or a related field.
  • Understanding of how underwriters collect data and what information is needed to build a group benefits renewal.
  • Working knowledge of how claims ratios and target loss ratios are used to approximate rates for the coming year, based on prior loss ratios and experience.
  • Interest in developing skills in account management, consulting, and business development.
  • Knowledge of group insurance products, renewals, pricing, or claims experience analysis is an asset.
  • A licence to advise on group benefits (for example, a group insurance of persons licence in your province) is a strong asset. Candidates who do not already hold a licence will be required to begin obtaining the licence for their province immediately upon being hired.
  • A CEBS, GBA, or equivalent designation is an asset.
  • Post‑secondary education in business administration, finance, insurance, or a related field is an asset.
  • Fluency in English is required; proficiency in French is an asset.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, and good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • This is a remote position open to candidates across Canada; no relocation is required.
