Overview

Future Opening: Graphic Designer and Production Specialist. FASTSIGNS offers an opportunity to hone your craft and be a creative voice in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. This role combines graphic design and production work to create and assemble sign and graphic products for various business applications within the FASTSIGNS Center sign production area, equipped with top-of-the-line sign-making equipment.

The Graphic Designer and Production Specialist has a dual role in the computer room and production room until the center grows to hire additional staff. The position involves creating computer-generated vinyl and/or full-color graphics output, and handling the physical construction and assembly of signs from computer-cut vinyl and wide-format prints. It may involve interpreting customer drawings or files and producing outputs for media.

Responsibilities

Computer Room Responsibilities

  • Prioritize daily workflow to efficiently and cost-effectively schedule tasks.
  • Determine the best output method based on customer needs.
  • Read and interpret Work Orders.
  • Coordinate with co-workers and customers on file transfers, FTP access, photo libraries, and online proofs.
  • Determine size and arrangement of illustration material and copy; select type style and size; layout according to space, design, and production requirements.
  • Prepare illustrations, sketches, layouts, and copy for print reproduction per client or supervisor instructions.
  • Allocate time for each Work Order; inspect jobs for accuracy before output; ensure correct materials and settings.
  • Maintain and manage customer logo library; convert graphic files as needed.
  • Source images, understand copyright and usage requirements, and work with service bureaus to output beyond store capability; understand resolution and enlargement specifications.
  • Provide proofs for customer approval when necessary.
  • Back up and archive files; maintain equipment and storage records following brand standards.
  • Minimize waste and notify supervisor of low inventory; communicate with staff on job requirements and timing.

Production Room Responsibilities

  • Prioritize daily workflow for efficient production scheduling.
  • Follow layouts to apply graphics to substrates; prepare substrates for application (cutting, painting, laminating, cleaning, maintenance).
  • Operate and maintain printers (solvent, latex, UV-curable as applicable).
  • Weed vinyl and apply finishing techniques; perform quality assurance pre- and post-construction; proof for errors or defects.
  • Conduct finishing operations (laminating, encapsulating, mounting) and install signs when necessary.
  • Operate laminator with proper temperature, pressure, and guides; assist with material handling and storage maintenance.
  • Maintain production rate and handle multiple projects concurrently.
  • Adhere to company policies and be mindful of brand expectations; participate in the brand mindset of “Everybody Sells.”
  • Provide backup reception support and front-counter assistance as needed; understand the sales process to discuss project needs with customers.
Requirements
  • Post-secondary education in graphic design or 1–2 years of equivalent work experience.
  • Keen interest in growing trends within the web design and branding space.
