Job summary

Varsity Tutors is seeking a skilled Graphic Design tutor to join our online 1-on-1 tutoring team. You will leverage advanced design principles and Adobe Creative Suite to guide students through typography, color theory, and portfolio development from the comfort of your home.

Earn up to $40/hour with flexible hours, fast biweekly payments, and access to our AI-powered Tutor Copilot to enhance sessions. Our platform handles invoicing and payments, so you can focus on teaching.

Qualifications

What We Look For In a Graphic Design Tutor

• Advanced Subject Mastery: Deep knowledge of design principles including typography, color theory, layout, visual hierarchy, branding, logo design, print and digital design, and proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite including Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign. Ability to explain design thinking process, grid systems, and visual communication theory while preparing students for design careers and portfolio development.
• Conceptual Teaching & Problem-Solving: Skilled at teaching design concept development, software proficiency, and visual communication strategies. Guides students through typography selection, color palette creation, logo development, layout composition, and preparing files for print and digital output. Emphasizes the design process from research through final execution and connects graphic design to branding, marketing, user experience, and visual storytelling career applications.
• Curriculum Awareness & Adaptive Instruction: Familiar with graphic design curricula and common challenges such as developing original concepts, mastering Adobe software tools, and understanding print versus digital production requirements. Adapts instruction using design briefs, software tutorials, and progressive portfolio projects to support students from beginners learning design fundamentals through advanced designers building professional portfolios for careers or further education.
• Effective Teaching Methods: Ability to identify concepts students commonly struggle with, explain material using multiple approaches, and adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs and styles.
• Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
• Ability to adapt to different learning styles and student needs.
