Job summary

Your Toronto Zoo in Toronto is seeking a Grant Reproductive Research Technician to assist with research and service projects, field work, education materials, data collation and report writing under the guidance of senior staff. This is a 6-month, ASAP-start contract with 40 hours per week.

The role supports the Strategic Plan, conducts lab and field work, helps with grant proposals, writes articles, delivers public outreach, and ensures compliance with safety and training requirements.

Qualifications

• Must have a post-secondary diploma or degree related to the field, minimum of 2 years completed or the equivalent amount of training and related experience.
• Must have a minimum of 1-year proven experience in the same or similar position.
• Must have proven, strong organizational skills.
• Must possess an understanding of research methods, general lab function and technical knowledge related to the assignment.
• Must ensure all applicable licenses and certificates remain valid and in good standing.
• Well-developed interpersonal skills, along with strong communications skills.
• Working knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act and WHMIS legislation an asset.
• An unrestricted Class G driver’s license valid in the Province of Ontario along with a good driving record is an asset.
• Must be knowledgeable in the use of computerized programs and systems.
• Must be able to work weekends, shifts and holidays as scheduled.
• Must be able to deal with staff and public in a courteous and efficient manner.
• Capable of meeting the physical requirements of the position.

• Assists with writing articles, blogs, and other public communications.
• Performs literature searches and reviews.
• Provides assistance in pursuing funding, including research and content for grant proposals and reports.
• Provides regular updates to the Manager and Senior Research Assistants.
• Follows all policies and branch instructions.
• Attends appropriate training as required.
