Graduate Teaching Assistant

We are seeking a highly organized and motivated Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTA) to facilitate delivery for multiple courses. The GTA will work closely with the instructor to coordinate and manage logistics, ensure a smooth program flow, and provide general support to program participants.

Position Details

Posting Summary: Competition Number 20252212SS. Position Title: Graduate Teaching Assistant. Faculty/Department: Johnson Shoyama Graduate School. Employee Group: CUPE 2419 CUPE 5791. Category: Student. Number of Vacancies: 9.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in preparing instructional material for each class.
  • Assist in marking assignments and tests.
  • Carry out tutoring sessions to students before assignments and tests.
  • Support weekly classes by assisting with discussions and applied policy exercises.
  • Provide technical support for classroom software (e.g., Zoom).
Course‑Specific Tasks
  • JSGS 802 – Public Finance: Assist in preparing instructional material; assist in marking; interpret and explain Canadian public finance frameworks. Preferred completion of JSGS 805 or JSGS 802.
  • JSGS 808 – Ethical Leadership and Democracy in Public Service: Assist in preparing instructional material; tutor students; explain ethical and leadership concepts. Strong analytical and academic writing skills required.
  • JSGS 806 – Public Policy Analysis: Assist in preparing instructional material; tutor students; support weekly classes. Ideally completed JSGS 806 or have knowledge of public policy analysis methods.
  • JSGS 8XX – Environmental Policy: Assist in developing new JSGS course on Environmental Policy. Strong understanding of climate change mitigation, pollution costs, and policy approaches.
  • JSGS 892 – MPA Capstone Class: Support class during excursions and finalize presentations; provide technical experience running Zoom and other software.
  • JSGS 856 – Health Information Privacy Policy: Assist in preparing instructional material; assist in marking. Prior completion of JSGS 856 preferred.
  • JSGS 8XX – Content Developer: Interview students and alumni; create social media posts highlighting experiences; collaborate with staff on brand alignment.

  • Proficiency in Zoom.
  • Prior experience in event planning, logistics coordination, project management, and hybrid event delivery highly preferred.

Pay Grade: As Per CUPE 2419 Salary Range. Status: Term. Work Hours: As indicated by Primary Course Instructor or Supervisor. Course Modality: As per course. Term/Duration: Winter Term 2026.
