Job summary

Ultra Maritime seeks a Graduate Systems Engineer to join the Dartmouth, Nova Scotia team. The role targets new or recent graduates eager to accelerate development by contributing to Royal Canadian Navy projects in the Anti-Submarine Warfare domain.

You will apply engineering fundamentals, support proposals, define requirements, and help manage system-level design and verification, while gaining hands-on experience with leading tools and processes in a defense-focused environment.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or closely related discipline.
  • 0+ years of related experience or apprenticeship in naval/complex engineering environments.

Responsibilities

  • Applies breadth and depth of engineering skills to develop solutions within time, cost, and quality constraints.
  • Supports technical proposal and bid efforts.
  • Defines and manages system and subsystem requirements.
  • Contributes to trade studies to evaluate design solutions.
  • Supports System Design through functional and non-functional analysis.
  • Supports the Integration, Verification and Validation strategy across the program.
  • Contributes to work packages for assigned projects.
  • Assists in technical/design reviews and risk management.

Ultra Maritime are seeking a new Graduate Systems Engineer to join the Dartmouth (Nova Scotia) based engineering team. This role is an exiting opportunity for a new or recent graduate looking to accelerate their development and career while contributing to the development of new and innovative solutions for the Royal Canadian Navy and its partners in the Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) domain.

Job Description Key Responsibilities
  • Applies a breadth and depth of engineering skills to develop solutions to complex problems within time, cost and quality constraints.
  • Supports technical proposal and bid efforts.
  • Defines and manages system and subsystem requirements.
  • Contributes to trade studies to evaluate different potential design solutions.
  • Supports the System Design, through functional and non-functional analysis.
  • Supports the Integration, Verification and Validation strategy throughout the program.
  • Contributes to work packages for assigned projects.
  • Plays a supporting role in technical / design reviews and risk management.
  • Actively contributes to the digital transformation of the business and seeks avenues for continuous improvement within the field.
Role Requirements
  • Basic knowledge of the Systems Engineering lifecycle and formal processes and methodologies - preferably in the defense sector.
  • Some limited experience or exposure to some elements of the project lifecycle from bid through to in-service support.
  • Good communication skills and some experience interfacing with various project stakeholders.
  • Required to maintain a security clearance.
Qualifications/Other Skills
  • Degree level (or equivalent experience) in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering or closely related discipline.
  • Ideally achieved 1+ years of experience in the Systems Engineering field - ideally within the naval defense sector or a highly complex engineering environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Use of standard office tools and proven experience with tools such as DOORS, UML tools, ERPs and other Configuration Management tools.
  • Typically, a Bachelor Degree (or equivalent) in a related field and 0+ years of related experience or a recognized apprenticeship.
  • May be required to maintain security clearance.
