Qualifications

What We Look For In a Grade 9 Math Tutor

• Advanced Subject Mastery: Deep knowledge of number sense and algebra, linear relations, analytic geometry, measurement and geometry (area, volume, surface area), and introductory data analysis and probability. Ability to explain solving first‑degree equations, graphing linear relationships, and geometric properties while preparing students for success in subsequent high school mathematics courses.
• Conceptual Teaching & Problem‑Solving: Skilled at breaking down equation solving, linear graphing, and geometric reasoning problems. Guides students through interpreting and constructing graphs of linear relations, applying measurement formulas, and analyzing simple data sets. Emphasizes building algebraic thinking from arithmetic foundations and connects mathematics to real‑world contexts including sports statistics, construction, and budgeting.
• Curriculum Awareness & Adaptive Instruction: Familiar with grade nine math curricula including Ontario MTH1W and Common Core standards, and common challenges such as transitioning to algebraic notation, graphing linear equations from different forms, and applying formulas to composite shapes. Adapts instruction using visual models, hands‑on measurement activities, and real‑world problems to support students at academic and applied levels.
• Effective Teaching Methods: Ability to identify concepts students commonly struggle with, explain material using multiple approaches, and adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs and styles.
• Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
• Ability to adapt to different learning styles and student needs.
