An Exciting Opportunity to Help Launch the DCS Secondary School Program

Delta Christian School is seeking an experienced Mathematics, Science, and ADST Lead Teacher to join our team as we launch the DCS Secondary School program. The successful candidate will begin by teaching Grade 8 in September 2027, with Grade 9 added in September 2028.

Delta Christian School is currently a dual-track Kindergarten to Grade 7 school. This launch represents the first steps toward establishing a full Grades 8–12 program serving the Delta community. It is a unique opportunity to help shape the next chapter of Delta Christian School while building on the strong traditions, relationships, culture, and educational practices already established across our K–7 program.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Head of School and secondary team to help establish a strong foundation for the program’s future growth.

Flexible FTE Structure

The core teaching assignment is expected to be approximately 0.4 FTE, focused primarily on Grade 8 mathematics, science, and ADST.

The position may increase up to 1.0 FTE depending on:

  • the candidate’s qualifications, experience, and teachable areas
  • their ability to teach other Grade 8 core academic subjects and/or electives
  • the overall composition of the secondary teaching team
  • how the remaining teaching assignments are filled

Candidates interested in either a part-time or full-time opportunity are encouraged to apply.

Position Overview

In the first year, the successful candidate will have primary responsibility for teaching Grade 8 mathematics, science, and Applied Design, Skills and Technologies (ADST). The role will expand to include Grade 9 as the program grows.

The position includes both teaching and program development, with opportunities to help shape curriculum, assessment, interdisciplinary learning, student experience, and the culture of the DCS Secondary School program.

Teamwork will be critical. Shared ownership, flexibility, open communication, and a willingness to contribute beyond individual teaching responsibilities will be essential.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Teach Grade 8 mathematics, science, ADST, and electives, with Grade 9 added in the second year
  • Help develop and implement the DCS Secondary School program in collaboration with the Head of School and secondary team
  • Design engaging, rigorous, and developmentally appropriate learning experiences that balance digital, hands-on, and paper-based learning
  • Design formational learning experiences that invite students to engage in real work that meets the real needs of real people
  • Establish a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment with clear expectations, routines, and boundaries
  • Integrate a Christian worldview meaningfully throughout teaching and learning
  • Contribute to curriculum development, assessment, interdisciplinary learning, and program structures
  • Work with the Inclusive Education Department to support diverse learners and appropriate accommodations and interventions
  • Build strong relationships with students and contribute to a culture of belonging, curiosity, responsibility, and growth
  • Partner with parents and families through timely, respectful, and proactive communication
  • Create opportunities for inquiry, problem-solving, experimentation, design thinking, and applied learning
  • Participate in advisory, student life, leadership development, and the broader life of the secondary program
  • Help establish the traditions, culture, and academic foundation for future growth
  • Depending on qualifications and FTE, teach other Grade 8 core academic subjects and electives
  • Travel between campuses and community-based learning locations as required
Qualifications

The successful candidate will:

  • Hold a valid BC teaching certificate or be eligible for certification
  • Have a minimum of three years of teaching experience in a Grades 8–12 setting
  • Have experience teaching mathematics, science, and/or ADST
  • Demonstrate strong instructional practice, classroom management, teamwork, and communication
  • Demonstrate a personal commitment to Christian faith and Christian education, be active in a Christian church community, and align with the Delta Christian School Community Standards
  • Have reliable access to a vehicle for travel between campuses and community-based learning locations

Assets include:

  • Experience with Teaching for Transformation (TfT) or another Christian worldview framework
  • Curriculum, course, or program development experience
  • Experience with Google for Education and inclusive teaching practices
  • Experience with interdisciplinary, project-based, inquiry-based, or applied learning
  • Ability to teach other Grade 8 core academic subjects and electives
