Job summary

Economical Insurance is seeking an experienced Underwriter to manage a commercial lines book in Canada. You will assess risk, negotiate with brokers, and work to grow profitability and retention while aligning with risk appetite.

Ideal candidates have at least six years of underwriting experience, CIP/FCIP/CRM designation, and strong communication skills. Hybrid work options and a company-wide commitment to inclusion and growth are offered.

• Market Definity products to brokers and staff to write and retain accounts within risk appetite.
• May assist in training and mentoring less experienced Underwriters.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

What To Expect

• Manage the profitability, growth, and retention of an assigned book of business.
• Underwrite and skillfully negotiate complex customer accounts to minimize risk and maximize profitability while adhering to Service Levels.
• Cultivate and maintain relationships with INI partners within the business unit and across the organization to fulfill sales plans and identify cross-selling opportunities.
• Foster and maintain relationships with external partners by regularly meeting in person with brokers to market and cross sell Definity products with a goal of writing and retaining accounts consistent with our risk appetite.
• May assist in the training and mentoring of less experienced Underwriters.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

What You Bring

• Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in a relevant field.
• Six years of relevant underwriting experience with experience in commercial lines.
• Deep knowledge of commercial lines products, the regulatory environment, and the local insurance market.
• Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to proactively identify underwriting, marketing, or financial challenges and analyze available information to make timely decisions in alignment with our risk appetite.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to successfully negotiate in difficult situations with managing companies and brokers.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
• CIP/FCIP/CRM designation.

Salary Range

$51,300-$94,400
