Job summary

HOOPP, a premier pension plan for Ontario healthcare workers, seeks a Managing Director, Interest Rates to lead global rate strategies and portfolio construction. You will guide capital allocation, drive alpha in Canadian and U.S. markets, and partner with risk, analytics and other investment teams to sustain risk-adjusted returns.

You will mentor professionals, cultivate senior relationships, and communicate strategy to governance bodies, ensuring alignment with HOOPP’s Total Fund objectives.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering or related field; CFA or advanced degree preferred.
• 15+ years of investment management experience in Canadian and U.S. rates markets with cash and derivatives.
• Strong record managing large institutional portfolios with risk-adjusted performance.
• Proven leadership experience directing investment teams and talent development.
• Ability to communicate complex macro concepts to senior stakeholders and committees.
• Extensive relationships across Canadian fixed income buy and sell side communities.

Responsibilities

• Lead development, implementation and trading of global interest rate strategies within guidelines.
• Identify strategic and tactical alpha opportunities in Canadian/U.S. rate markets.
• Apply expertise in Canadian market liquidity to execute transactions.
• Identify signals from policy, macro themes and investor behavior for decisions.
• Oversee portfolio construction and capital allocation across cash and derivatives.
• Develop quantitative research and analytical tools to improve decisions.
• Collaborate with Risk and analytics for stress testing and reporting.
• Support growth of Interest Rates business including adjacent strategies.
• Drive automation and AI-related initiatives in investment processes.
• Mentor investment professionals and strengthen leadership pipelines.
• Build relationships with dealers, researchers and industry peers.
• Communicate portfolio strategy and performance to leadership and governance bodies.
