Job summary

The Municipality of Lakeshore is seeking a Geographic Information System (GIS) Coop Student to support data creation, editing and maintenance across departments. You will contribute to municipal projects using ESRI ArcGIS and related software, while gaining hands-on experience in geospatial workflows.

Working in the Community Planning Division, you will handle map production, data updates, and documentation, under supervision, with a 35-hour workweek, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in college/university in Geography, Geomatics, Civil Engineering Tech or related field.
• ArcGIS experience or GIS certificate preferred.
• Strong MS Office and Windows/SQL Server familiarity.
• Detail-oriented with data editing and map creation skills.
• Team-oriented with good customer service attitude.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and update Municipal GIS infrastructure databases and apps.
• Create standard and special maps, plans, sketches, and reports.

Position: Geographic Information System (GIS) Coop Student

Salary: Grade 4, Non Union ($24.51/hr -2026 rate)

Reports to: Executive Director - Development Services

Purpose of Position:

Working in the Community Planning Division, the Geographic Information System (GIS) Coop Student role will be responsible for maintaining, editing and creating digital data through special projects for the Municipality of Lakeshore. This position will provide geographic information to various departments within the Municipality and will assist in regular workflows and project

Qualifications & Experience:

• Must be currently enrolled in a College or University in the field of Geography, Geomatics, Civil Engineering Technologist, Computer Science or related field of study;
• ESRI ArcGIS suite of products or certificate in GIS, is preferred.

Knowledge & Skills:

• Working knowledge and experience in various software applications including Microsoft Applications such as ESRI ArcGIS suite of products, Office 365, Windows Operating Systems and Servers and SQL Server;
• Attention to detail required in creation of maps and in editing of spatial features within the database;
• Professionalism and confidentiality required at all times;
• Working knowledge of networking protocols and standards;
• Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment;
• Proven working experience in a team-oriented, collaborative environment with strong customer service orientation.

Major Responsibilities:

• Creation, maintenance, editing, and acquisition of municipal data for all Departments within the Municipality
• Maintain and update of Municipal GIS infrastructure (ex. sanitary sewer, storm sewer, water mains) databases and applications.
• Creation of standard and special-purpose maps, plans, sketches and reports of various geographic data as requested by all Departments within the Municipality
• Any other duties as assigned.

• Work is performed under the general direction of the Executive Director Development Services and other department heads.
• Works within established guidelines, policies, procedures, directives, bylaws and legislation.

Physical Skill and Effort
