Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, or Geotechnical Engineering.
  • 1 year geotechnical engineering experience or internships/co-ops.
  • Registered as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or eligible for registration with APEGA.
  • Master’s degree in Geotechnical or Geological Engineering.
  • Familiarity with permafrost terrain assessment and frozen ground characterization.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with geotechnical software such as GeoStudio, SLOPE/W, Seep/W, Settle3, LPile or equivalent.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license and willingness to travel to remote project sites.

Responsibilities

  • Assist planning and execution of geotechnical and field investigations.
  • Support drilling, sampling, test pit programs and geotechnical instrumentation.
  • Log soil, rock, and frozen ground samples with detailed field records.
  • Compile and interpret geotechnical laboratory and field data.
  • Assist in preparing geotechnical reports and design recommendations.
  • Support analyses for foundations, embankments, earthworks, pavements and slopes.
  • Conduct site inspections and construction monitoring activities.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across Canada.

Job Description

AECOM is seeking a highly motivated Geotechnical Engineering/EIT to join our Environment team in Edmonton, AB.

This position is expected to start ASAP.

Position Overview:
This entry-level position is ideal for a recent graduate or early-career engineer with a strong interest in engineering and foundational knowledge in geotechnical investigations and infrastructure. The role will involve a mix of fieldwork, engineering analyses, report preparation, and construction support, offering excellent opportunities for technical growth and professional development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the planning and execution of geotechnical and field investigations.
  • Support drilling, sampling, test pit programs, and the installation of geotechnical instrumentation.
  • Log soil, rock, and frozen ground samples while maintaining detailed field records.
  • Compile and interpret geotechnical laboratory and field data.
  • Assist in preparing geotechnical reports, engineering assessments, and design recommendations.
  • Support analyses related to foundations, embankments, earthworks, pavements, and slope stability.
  • Conduct site inspections and construction monitoring activities.
  • Support proposal preparation, project planning, and technical documentation.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across Canada.
  • Adhere to corporate health, safety, and quality requirements.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, or Geotechnical Engineering.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1 year of relevant geotechnical engineering experience, including internships or co-op placements.
  • Registered as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT), or eligible for registration with APEGA.
  • Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Geological Engineering.
  • Familiarity with permafrost terrain assessment, frozen ground characterization, and thermal monitoring programs.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with geotechnical software such as GeoStudio, SLOPE/W, Seep/W, Settle3, LPile, or equivalent.
  • Experience supporting mining, transportation, water, or community infrastructure projects.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license and willingness to travel to remote project sites.
