Job summary

Peter Lucas Project Management is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to support underground mining operations near Kamloops, BC. This permanent full-time role focuses on mine development, ground control, and operational decision-making, with a 7 days on / 7 days off site rotation.

You will conduct field assessments, evaluate ground conditions, and develop practical geotechnical solutions in collaboration with mining engineers and site personnel, ensuring safety and efficiency of operations.

Qualifications

• Degree in Geotechnical, Geological, or Mining Engineering.
• P.Eng. designation.
• Experience in underground mining geotechnical support.
• Ability to work a 7 days on / 7 days off site rotation.
• Willingness to travel to site.

Responsibilities

• Provide geotechnical support for underground ramp development.
• Perform field inspections, mapping, and data collection to evaluate ground conditions and excavation stability.
• Develop, review, and optimize ground support designs based on site conditions and geotechnical data.
• Monitor ground behaviour and provide recommendations to support safe and efficient mining operations.
• Prepare technical reports, engineering documentation, and recommendations.
• Collaborate with mining engineers and site personnel to identify geotechnical risks.
• Participate in site safety initiatives and ensure compliance with mining safety standards.

The Opportunity

As a Geotechnical Engineer, you will support underground ramp development activities by evaluating ground conditions, optimizing support designs, and providing recommendations that directly impact safe mine operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide geotechnical engineering support for underground ramp development and mining activities
• Perform geotechnical assessments, field inspections, mapping, and data collection to evaluate ground conditions and excavation stability
• Develop, review, and optimize ground support designs based on site conditions and geotechnical data
• Monitor ground behaviour and provide recommendations to support safe and efficient mining operations
• Analyze geotechnical information and communicate practical recommendations to mine operations and engineering teams
• Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of ground control strategies and procedures
• Collaborate with mining engineers, supervisors, and site personnel to identify and manage geotechnical risks
• Prepare technical reports, engineering documentation, and recommendations related to ground conditions and support systems
• Participate in site safety initiatives and ensure compliance with mining safety standards and procedures

Requirements

• Degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Geological Engineering, Mining Engineering, or related discipline.
• Professional engineering designation (P.Eng.).
• Experience providing geotechnical engineering support in underground mining environments.
• Experience with ground support design, excavation stability, and underground development activities.
• Knowledge of geotechnical monitoring techniques, instrumentation, and data interpretation.
• Ability to conduct field assessments and work effectively in an active mine site environment.
• Strong understanding of underground mining practices, ground control principles, and safety requirements.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills with the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
• Ability to work a 7 days on / 7 days off site rotation.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to site as required
