Stantec in Canada is seeking an Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer specializing in cold regions and permafrost to work on dam, reservoir, and hydropower projects. You’ll join a collaborative team focused on engineering excellence and climate-resilient design across Canada.
You will leverage your 7+ years of geotechnical experience to perform design and analysis, mentor colleagues, and contribute to business development while advancing technical leadership and client engagement in a hybrid work
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Geological, Civil, or Geotechnical Engineering (Master’s or PhD an asset).
- 7+ years of relevant industry experience.
- Experience in cold regions and permafrost geotechnical design and construction.
- Knowledge of Canadian and global cold regions guidelines and standards.
- General knowledge of geotechnical software solutions (GeoStudio™, LeapFrog, Rocscience).
- Demonstrated ability to work and manage projects independently and on a team.
- Proactive approach and strong problem-solving skills.
- Passion for making a positive impact through engineering.
- Effective communication skills, including report writing and client engagement.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
- Mentorship and active participation in professional associations is an asset.
Responsibilities
- Support the design, analysis, and construction of infrastructure projects in cold regions and permafrost in Canada.
- Carry out complex analyses using state-of-the-practice software.
- Manage and coordinate geotechnical-focused and multidisciplinary project teams.
- Mentor and be mentored by colleagues across experience levels.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and build client relationships.
- Contribute to business development, proposals, and market expansion.
- Drive innovation by leading digitization, numerical modeling, and emerging technologies with focus on climate adaptation and risk reduction.

- Locations Outside of Lower Mainland -- BC & Various locations in Ontario-$106,700.00 - $156,700.00 Annually
- Locations in Lower Mainland -- BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$114,600.00 - $164,600.00 Annually
In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
