Job summary

CST Canada Coal Limited seeks a Geotechnical Engineer to oversee geotechnical aspects of pit walls and waste rock dumps, ensuring hazards are manageable for safe and efficient mining operations. You will conduct field inspections, develop slope monitoring strategies, perform rock mass characterization and slope stability analyses, and prepare regulatory reports.

Experience with RocScience software and slope monitoring tools, plus MS Office proficiency, is preferred; underground geotechnical

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in geological or mining engineering.
• Master's degree in geological/geotechnical engineering preferred.
• Experience in geotechnical open pit mining is a strong asset.
• Experience with slope monitoring systems (PRiMS, Robotic Total Station, radar) is a strong asset.
• Underground geotechnical experience is an asset.

Position Overview: This position is responsible for geotechnical aspects of pit wall and waste rock dump to ensure all geotechnical hazards are manageable for safe and efficient mining operations.

Accountability

Reporting to the Superintendent, Geotechnical Engineering and Geology, is responsible for coordinating and/or executing:

• Regular field geotechnical inspection.
• Slope monitoring strategy, installation and interpretation.
• Geotechnical analysis and reporting: rock mass characterization & slope stability analysis.
• External reporting: monthly and quarterly geotechnical inspection report for regulatory purposes.
• Geotechnical drilling campaign.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Geological or Mining Engineering from a recognized post-secondary institution
  • Master’s degree in Geological/Geotechnical Engineering preferred
• Experience in geotechnical open pit mining operations is a strong asset.
• Experience with slope monitoring system: prims monitoring with Robotic Total Station, Radar monitoring) is a strong asset.
• Experience in geotechnical underground operations is an asset.

Skills & Competencies

• Strong commitment to safety and a zero-incident workplace
• Solid understanding of geotechnical aspects in open pit mine:
  • Geology structural mapping.
  • Hydrogeology.
  • Geotechnical field investigation methods.
• Familiar with RocScience geotechnical software.
• Experience with MineSight® or Deswik® considered an asset
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, operations-driven environment.
