Job summary

Terracon Geotechnique Ltd seeks geoscience professionals for field-based roles in Fort McMurray. The position involves drilling monitoring, logging, core sampling, and geotechnical investigations across mining and municipal projects.

Qualifications

• We require a degree in Geology or Earth Science, Geoscience, or an equivalent education/field experience.
• Legal authorization to work in Canada and a valid driver’s license in good standing.
• Ability to complete physical field work and pass fitness-for-work tests.

Responsibilities

• Drill monitoring, geological logging, core sampling and description.
• Soil/environmental sampling, groundwater monitoring, and field testing.
• Technical reporting, data collection, and client relationship maintenance.

About the Role

Our projects are diverse and include geotechnical/civil engineering, QA/QC construction monitoring, drill monitoring, geo-environmental monitoring, site investigations, foundation inspections, and soil and concrete lab testing. We work across various industries, from open-pit mining environments to municipal infrastructure projects.

We are currently hiring individuals with a Geoscience background to work on a multitude of differing drilling, mining, heavy civil and municipal projects. We anticipate this position to have a Fall 2026 start date.

Job Responsibilities

Geology and Geotechnical

• Drill monitoring and geological logging
• Core description and sampling
• Geotechnical investigations, sampling and installations
• Groundwater monitoring
• Pump testing
• Soil/surface-water sampling
• Environmental field programs

Construction and QA/QC

• Soil, aggregate, and concrete testing
• Earthwork inspections
• Piling monitoring
• Construction quality assurance

Project Delivery

• Technical reporting
• Data collection and interpretation
• Building and maintaining client relationships
• Project scheduling and documentation

What We Look For

We are seeking individuals with:

• A degree/diploma in Geology or Earth Science, Geoscience, Geo Environmental or an equivalent combination of education and /or field experience.
• Legal authorization to work in Canada.
• A valid driver's license and a driver abstract in good standing.
• Individuals who can complete physical field work and pass a fitness-for-work test.
• Individuals that are capable of working in safety-sensitive environments and can meet drug and alcohol testing requirements.
• Individuals who want to learn, share, and grow themselves and the business.

Additional Assets

• Experience in a technical field-based role is an asset, as is experience in the geoscience industry.
• Proficiency in off-road 4x4 driving and winter conditions.
• BSO/CSO, H2S & CCIL certification.
• Membership with ASET or APEGA are considered additional advantages.
• Opportunities are primarily based in Fort McMurray.
• Fieldwork includes 12-hour shifts (day/night) in various project environments.
