General Manager Location: Calgary, AB

Employment Type: Full-Time

Are you a passionate leader who thrives in a dynamic and multifaceted environment? Calgary Animal Referral & Emergency Centre is welcoming an experienced General Manager to join our exceptional team. As General Manager, you will play a vital role in the hospital’s ongoing success—working alongside a dedicated team of professionals and reporting directly to the leader who oversees specialty services in Canada. You will guide hospital operations, support multi-department leads, and ensure excellence in service delivery, people development, team cohesiveness and hospital performance.

What You Will Do
  • Lead a diverse hospital team, including multiple veterinary specialists, ER veterinarians, technicians and other support staff

  • Champion a strong and healthy workplace culture that aligns with VCA Canada’s values

  • Oversee daily operations and ensure an outstanding client and patient experience

  • Partner with medical and operational leadership to drive hospital goals and performance

  • Review and monitor administrative functions, including hospital scheduling, document control, inventory and building maintenance.

  • Use financial reporting tools to assess trends and guide data-driven day-to-day financial decisions

  • Lead change management efforts to support continuous growth and improvement

  • Proactively connect with staff to anticipate and resolve challenges across departments and specialties

Your Qualifications & Attributes
  • Proven leadership experience in a healthcare, veterinary, or service-oriented environment

  • Ability to manage and support multiple specialists and their respective departments

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Highly organized with excellent time-management abilities

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment

  • Experience with operational budgets, KPIs, and performance metrics

  • Change management experience is considered a strong asset
