General Manager – Metals Recycling Facility

Location: Fort Saint John

Salary: $130,000 – $140,000

Team Size: 15 people on site

About the Role

We’re seeking a dynamic and experienced General Manager to lead operations at our metals recycling facility in Fort Saint John. Reporting to the Regional General Manager, you’ll oversee all aspects of the site’s performance, lead a dedicated team, and drive business growth through exceptional customer service and operational excellence.

Duties

• Lead and manage yard operations and staff
• Work with the Regional Manager and VP, Operations to set annual budget for the yard, taking into account: equipment condition; environmental necessities; operational needs; business growth
• Proactively identify and pursue new business prospects for the company and develop existing relationships to achieve growth in volume and market share
• Oversee environmental, health & safety programs and processes to create a safe environment for all employees, customers and visitors
• Measure and report service and operational data and partner with corporate subject matter experts to enhance key performance measures
• Set and manage annual budgets in collaboration with senior leadership
• Drive business development and customer growth
• Ensure compliance with environmental, health & safety standards
• Oversee HR functions including training and performance management
• Implement continuous improvement initiatives
• Collaborate with other locations and corporate teams to expand services

Requirements

• 5+ years in operations / distribution management, including team leadership
• 3+ years managing a profit center
• Adept at sales and business development and proven ability to win new customers and accounts
• Experience with continuous improvement programs
• Proficiency in MS Office and business software
• Scrap metal industry experience is an asset
• Post-secondary education in a related field is an asset
• Entrepreneurial mindset and collaborative spirit
