Job summary

SGS is seeking a lab support technician to perform routine testing and analysis under supervision. You will log samples into LIMS, prepare standards, and assist with sample preparation and storage, ensuring accuracy and traceability.

The role requires good numeracy, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a team with rotating days, afternoons, and evenings. Hours are 40 per week with health and retirement benefits available.

Qualifications

• A minimum of a high school diploma (or equivalent) is required.
• Experience in a Laboratory environment is an asset.
• Proficient with computer software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook).

Responsibilities

• Carry out routine testing and analysis following written work instructions.
• Assist in sample identification, preparation, dilutions, and logging into LIMS.
• Maintain and verify equipment calibrations and storage of samples.
• Prepare standards and reagents and interpret results.
• Monitor equipment maintenance and laboratory supplies.
• Follow Quality system protocols and report discrepancies to supervisor.

Job description

This position will carry out various routine testing and analysis, following written work instructions under the direction of the Supervisor of a specific department.

Duties

• Duties may include sample identification, sample preparation, sample dilutions,
• Ensure samples are logged into LIMS accurately and in a quick manner.
• Working knowledge of LIMS
• Ensure samples are catalogued and stored in an efficient and easily retrievable manner.
• Assists laboratory personnel in locating and retrieving of samples and also responsible for sample disposal or returning samples to clients.
• Maintain and record equipment calibrations.
• Preparation of standards and reagents.
• Interpreting and evaluating results.
• Monitor Equipment maintenance & laboratory supplies.
• Follow all Quality system protocols, report discrepancies to the Supervisor.

Qualifications

• A minimum of a high school diploma (or equivalent) is required.
• Experience is a Laboratory environment is an asset.
• Good hand/eye coordination when handling samples & lab equipment
• Must be comfortable with numerals in order to monitor data on a computer screen.
• Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner.
• Able to work well under pressure during high (peak) workloads and balancing conflicting demands of high volume versus the quality of results.
• Candidates must be proficient in using various types of computer software (Word, Excel. PowerPoint & Outlook).
• Candidates must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work well with others & independently.
• Proven time management skills and a strong attention to detail.
• Able to work a rotating schedule - days, afternoons & evenings.

Compensation: $20.50 to $21.50 per hour / 40 hours per week.
