Job summary

Language Requirements: Spanish Level 4-Advanced and English Level 3-Intermediate

The Volunteer’s Role

As a gender advisor, you will work with Centro de Derechos Para la Mujer (CDM) to help create both community and institutional gender policies.

Responsibilities
  • Analyze and review the Draft Institutional Diagnosis.
  • Analyze and revise the Draft Institutional Policy of Gender and the Institutional Strategic Plan to align normative instruments.
  • Elaborate a Training Plan aimed at the communities and the organization’s staff.
Essential Requirements
  • University degree in social, economics, international development and/or equivalent experience in a related field.
Essential Background
  • Knowledge / experience on Gender Equality.
  • Knowledge / experience on planning, administration processes, strategy design.
  • Previous experience in planning processes.
  • Knowledge / experience in research, teaching, training and/or facilitation processes.
  • Knowledge / experience applying participatory approaches and tools.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a multi‑cultural and multi‑disciplinary team.

Project – Sharing Canadian Expertise for Inclusive Development and Gender Equality (SHARE)

The SHARE project, supported by Global Affairs Canada, runs from 2020‑2027 and aims to improve the well‑being of the poorest and most marginalized people, especially women and girls, in developing countries. It also seeks to enhance the performance of country partners to deliver inclusive, innovative, and environmentally sustainable development initiatives that advance gender equality in line with Canada’s Feminist International Assistance Policy.

Benefits

Terms and Conditions: Support covers basic living expenses for one volunteer and does not include home‑based expenses or luxury items.

Support Package
  • Modest monthly living allowance.
  • Accommodation while in placement.
  • Medical Health Insurance (including required vaccinations and antimalarial medication).
  • Round‑trip airfare and visa / work permit costs.
  • Pre‑placement training, In‑Country Orientation (ICO) and Reintegration Debriefing.
  • Ongoing support from Cuso International’s Country Program Office (CPO) and local partners throughout the placement.
  • Access to Employee Assistance Program (EAP) during placement and upon return.
  • Bonus: Additional return flight home or cash in lieu after 12 months of service for volunteers who extend for another 6 months.
Selection Requirements
  • Confirm Passport or Permanent Resident details for travel purposes.
  • Provide two professional references and one personal reference.
  • Complete a language assessment during the preliminary telephone interview in the required language.
  • Obtain a satisfactory Police Check.
  • Complete a medical exam and be medically cleared before departure.
  • Due to the COVID‑19 situation, be double vaccinated following WHO‑approved vaccines.
Pre‑placement Training and Briefing - Skills and Knowledge for Working in Development (SKWID)

We commit to helping you prepare as best as possible for your placement. You will have a Volunteering Mobilization Advisor (VMA) to support you through the process and will participate in pre‑placement training. You will also have access to self‑directed briefing documents, online training, and external resources through the volunteer portal. This training maximizes your understanding of your placement and culture, helps you plan learning, and promotes safety and health.

Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse

Cuso International works with poor, vulnerable and marginalized people, mainly women and girls, to eradicate poverty and inequality. We uphold the highest standards of ethical and professional conduct. All vulnerability groups have the right to live free of harassment, sexual exploitation, and abuse. Volunteers must agree to uphold the Child Protection, Prevention of Workplace Violence, Prevention of Workplace Harassment and Discrimination, and Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse Policies and Code of Conduct.

Residency and Citizenship

Most applicants are based in Canada, although we receive applications from outside Canada. Regardless of your location, we require you to provide passport information and current residence details. Leaving your country of residence can impact your citizenship status; applicants must research implications with local immigration authorities. Canadian Permanent Residents should arrange with immigration authorities before traveling to avoid risks to residency status.
