Job summary

9 Story Media Group in Toronto seeks an FX Artist to create FX assets for CG animated projects. Work closely with the Art Director and Directors to meet visual and technical requirements.

The role requires knowledge of FX creation and the CG pipeline, with experience in dynamics, fluids and particles, plus FX compositing. Applicants must be eligible to work in Canada with Ontario residency.

We are currently looking for an FX Artist to join our talented team here at our Toronto studio. The successful candidate will create FX assets based on the visual and narrative requirements while working within the technical specifications of the show.

Role Title: FX Artist

Reporting to: FX Dept Supervisor

Purpose: Why you’re here at Brown Bag Films
  • To create FX assets for a CG animated series based on the visual and narrative requirements established by the Art Director and episodic Director, while working within the technical specifications of the show.
Delivery: What you produce
  • Artistically and technically accurate FX assets and shots in collaboration with the Art Department
  • Pipeline and IT tickets
  • Technical documentation outlining the department and show specific processes for creating FX assets
Measurements: How we measure it
  • Completion of tasks within agreed schedule
  • Handling of revisions and tweaks effectively
Key Responsibilities

What you are regularly responsible for doing:

  • Completion of FX assets and shots within the agreed time allowed.
  • Proactively problem solving; creating the IT and pipeline tickets to address any technical problems for the department.
  • Logging time into time logging software daily.
  • Contributing to best practices and pipeline within in the studio.
  • Reviewing own assets and shots and that of the FX team (internal and overseas) at dailies with the FX lead and the production team.
  • Collaborating in animatic reviews.
  • Complete training tasks assigned by the Dept Supervisor & Lead artist.
  • Contributing to the development of tools and workflows.
Key Requirements

Knowledge:

  • Working Knowledge of FX creation and the CG pipeline.

Experience:

  • Previous experience working as an FX Artist (or similar position) in either broadcast or feature film work.

Technical Skills:

  • Solid understanding of VFX for animation: dynamics, fluids, particles as well as FX Compositing as part of animation pipeline.

The salary range for this role is $70,000 to $85,000 per year.
