Position Description

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Develop a research program in omics data analysis in the field of microbial systems biology. The research should adopt a multi‑omic approach, use and/or develop high‑throughput methodologies, and utilize bioinformatics. Integrating, managing, processing and analyzing complex data should be central to the research strategy. This research should, as far as possible, be integrated with other research activities already underway in the Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Bioinformatics.
  • Secure funding from major granting agencies. Recruit and mentor graduate students.
  • Participate in the teaching of undergraduate and graduate courses offered in French by the Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Bioinformatics.
  • And more generally, participate in the development and activities of the Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Bioinformatics, the Faculty of Science and Engineering and Université Laval.

Furthermore, the incumbent will have the opportunity to develop an experimental component within his or her research program, depending on his or her individual interests.

Qualifications

Candidates will be evaluated based on their potential and demonstrated skills in teaching and research. The candidates should have a solid background or experience in multi‑omics data analysis, including, for example, machine learning. Additionally, the candidate must be able to design and implement an independent research program in the field of microbial systems biology.

In addition, he or she must:

  • Hold a PhD in a discipline relevant to the research area covered by this position.
  • Have a minimum of one year of postdoctoral or equivalent professional experience.
  • Demonstrate a strong potential to develop and lead an autonomous, original, and high‑level research program in the field identified.
  • Demonstrate a strong potential to obtain research funding.
  • Demonstrate interest and aptitude for recruiting and supervising graduate students.
  • Demonstrate an aptitude or potential for teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels and a commitment to pedagogical innovation.
  • Demonstrate potential for or commitment to community service.
  • Master French, both orally and in writing (or commit to acquiring it within the deadlines set out in the collective agreement).
  • Demonstrate a match between her/his professional potential and the key competencies required to perform the professorial function. This includes:
    • Analysis, synthesis, and judgment.
    • Creativity and innovation.
    • Communication skills.
    • Interpersonal skills and openness
    • Ability to work as part of a team and with partners. Autonomy and sense of responsibility.
    • Sense of ethics and duty.
    • People management.

Employment Conditions and Salary
  • This is a regular, full‑time, tenure‑track position.
  • The rank will be determined based on experience.
  • There will be a teaching release during the first year.
  • The annual salary (12 months) for this position, as per the Université Laval collective agreement, ranges from $102,030 to $183,063 depending on rank and step.
