Job summary

Default Alpha House Calgary is seeking a licensed practical nurse (LPN) to join its Place Based Supportive Housing program on a term basis. The LPN will deliver care planning and services within scope, provide health teaching, infection prevention support, and participate in client‑centered care as part of an integrated team.

Responsibilities include performing delegated nursing functions, supporting vaccination efforts, developing care plans, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
• 2–3 years’ experience in addictions nursing (preferred).
• Knowledge of the nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.
• Computer literacy: MS Word, Excel, Outlook; WOLF EMR an asset.
• Active registration and good standing with CLPNA/CRNA/CRPNA.
• Strong time management, multitasking, and critical thinking; able to triage with minimal supervision.

Job Type: Term Full-Time (7am to 7pm, 3 days on, 3 days off)
Pay: $27.27 per hour

About the Role

We’re looking for a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our team in the Place Based Supportive Housing program at Alpha House for a term. As an LPN, you will be responsible for delivering care planning and services within the LPN scope of practice. You will provide health teaching, infection prevention support, and participate in client-centered care as part of an integrated, collaborative team. Your responsibilities would include:

• Performing delegated independent nursing functions within the CLPNA scope of practice for clients with substance use disorder living in permanent supportive housing
• Maintaining and ensuring best practices around infection prevention and control
• Providing health education related to Hepatitis A, B, C, HIV/AIDS, condom usage, nutrition, STBBIs, sanitation, hygiene, and medication management
• Supporting influenza clinics, vaccinations, and Naloxone training
• Ensuring compliance with regulatory standards (MSDS, OH&S, WHMIS)
• Developing and participating in comprehensive client care plans
• Demonstrating initiative, critical thinking, decision-making, and triage without direct supervision
• Collaborating with the team in an integrated practice model
• Serving as a role model for Alpha House’s values and acting as a positive ambassador with clients, partners, and the community

About You

We are looking for an experienced and compassionate LPN to join our PBSH Program. The ideal candidate would have the following:

• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
• 2–3 years’ experience in addictions nursing (preferred)
• Knowledge of the nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care
• Computer literacy, including MS Word, Excel, and Outlook (WOLF EMR an asset)
• Active registration and good standing with CLPNA/CRNA/CRPNA
• Strong time management, multitasking, and critical thinking skills; able to triage with minimal supervision
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with diplomacy, negotiation, conflict resolution, and empathy
• Resourceful, flexible, and adaptable in challenging situations
• Knowledge of socio-environmental determinants of health, including poverty, mental health, and substance use disorder
• Commitment to ethical practice and thorough understanding of the Protection of Persons in Care Act
• Ability to physically assist clients from prone to sitting/standing positions
• Vulnerable Sector Search (within 6 months) with no disqualifying results
• Ability to obtain privacy certification and“It’s Your Move” or equivalent patient lift training
• Valid CPR certification
• Ability to tolerate strong odors
