Okanagan Hockey Academy (OHA) is seeking an Assistant Coach to join our U18 Female Prep team in Penticton, BC. The successful candidates will become part of a world-class hockey development program that emphasizes excellence in all areas of student-athlete training on and off the ice.

Background

Summary of Responsibilities

Reports directly to the Senior Manager of Hockey Operations and works closely with the Head Coach and Management team to provide an optimal environment for the student-athletes. Responsibilities include:

  • Develop and implement on-ice activities with the head coach
  • Assist in all team activities including off-ice training, practices, games (including travel)
  • Create weekly practice schedules and yearly plans
  • Oversee on-ice practices, develop tactics and strategies, prepare players for games, manage the bench, and provide player evaluations
  • Transport players as needed
  • Participate in meetings and conferences
  • Ensure adherence to the Code of Conduct and Discipline Policy; participate in the Discipline Committee as required
  • Ensure compliance with OHG policies and procedures
  • Assist with parent and player communication
  • Promote and market student-athletes for future opportunities
  • Instruct during summer and spring camps
  • Contribute to Hockey Canada Skills Academy programming as required
  • Assist with spring tryouts and teams
  • Follow all Hockey Canada rules and regulations

Qualifications & Requirements :

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma, or equivalent experience
  • Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills
  • Experience working with youth aged 12–19
  • Experience playing at higher levels is an asset
  • Hockey Canada qualifications: Development 1 or High Performance (HP1), Respect in Sport, Gender Equality, CATT
  • Positive, professional attitude with strong communication skills
  • Ability to build positive relationships with team members and families
  • Proactive, organized, adaptable, and supportive
  • Experience with video editing and player footage analysis
  • Skate sharpening and equipment experience is a bonus
  • Class 4 Driver’s License and current driving record required
  • Criminal record and vulnerable persons checks required
