Job summary

Manulife John Hancock is seeking a Front to Full Stack Software Engineer to craft scalable digital experiences across the full technology stack. You’ll build engaging front-end experiences with React while developing APIs and server-side services in a collaborative Agile and DevOps environment.

You’ll contribute through design, prototyping, development, testing, deployment, and continuous improvement, delivering high-quality software with accessibility at the forefront.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of professional Full Stack Software Engineering experience.
• Strong hands-on experience with React, Node.js, Express, JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS3.
• Experience building and testing modern front-end applications.
• Strong knowledge of React component architecture and Redux, with an emphasis on reusable, efficient, maintainable components.
• Understanding of React server-side rendering.
• Strong CSS expertise and experience building responsive, scalable user interfaces.
• Experience developing digital products with accessibility built into the design and development lifecycle.
• Experience developing applications in alignment with accessibility standards such as WCAG 2.1.
• Understanding of Agile, DevOps, automated testing, continuous integration, API development, and database design.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deliver, maintain, and continuously improve full-stack business applications.
• Build modern, responsive, reusable user experiences using React, JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS3.
• Design and integrate APIs, databases, server-side logic, and front-end components.
• Develop reusable and maintainable React components using Redux.
• Apply disciplined engineering practices, automation, and semantic versioning to deliver high-quality software.
• Build automated tests and test harnesses that support reliable releases and continuous integration.
• Perform technical spikes and prototypes to evaluate ideas and reduce uncertainty.
• Troubleshoot defects, improve application performance, and enhance quality and efficiency.
• Build digital experiences with accessibility and mobile responsiveness at the forefront, aligned with WCAG 2.1.
• Work within modern CI/CD and DevSecOps practices.
• Participate in design discussions, brainstorming, code reviews, and peer collaboration.
• Partner with business, product, design, and technology stakeholders to transform requirements into solutions.
• Create technical documentation to support deployment, maintenance, operations, and evolving business needs.
• Share expertise with other engineers and contribute to continuous learning.

What You Bring

• Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate technical concepts, options, and outcomes.
• A collaborative mindset and the ability to understand and respond to the needs of clients and stakeholders.

Even Better If You Have

• Experience or exposure to Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) .
• Cloud development experience using Microsoft Azure and Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) or a similar container platform.
• Experience with PaaS and microservices architectures .
• Knowledge of CI/CD technologies such as Jenkins or TeamCity .
• Familiarity with GitHub Actions .Experience with code quality and application security tools such as SonarQube, Fortify, and WebInspect .
• Experience mentoring junior engineers and a genuine interest in helping other developers grow.
