Job description
Overview

Alpha House is a non-profit charitable agency that provides a safe and caring environment for individuals whose lives are affected by homelessness and substance use disorder. As the LPN you will be responsible for wound care, care planning and delivery based on the scope of practice for an LPN.

Hours of work: 3 days on, 3 days off, 7pm to 7am

Compensation: $27.27 per hour plus a $2 night allowance where applicable

Paid vacation, sick time, meal breaks and course hours.

Responsibilities
  • Perform delegated independent nursing functions within the scope of practice as determined by CLPNA for Alpha House Clients, including those in our Shelter (servicing the homeless) Housing and detox programs
  • Maintains and ensures best practices around the infection prevention control for Alpha House
  • Be informed of PLS routines and maintains standards and staff training around phlebotomy and lab services.
  • Participates in formal and informal health teaching including preventative health concepts concerning Hepatitis A, B, C and AIDS, condom usage, nutrition, STBBI’s, basic sanitation, personal hygiene, medication management including but not limited to substance use disorder
  • Participate in influenza clinics and vaccinations as well as providing Naloxone and lift training
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards (ex: MSDS, OH & S, WHMIS).
  • Organize job functions and work area to be able to effectively complete assignments within established time frames.
  • Consistently demonstrate ability to take the initiative to make decisions, critical thinking choices, and triage without direct supervision.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of all policies and procedures and ability to reference them from appropriate books and manuals.
  • Participate and develop comprehensive client care plans
  • Work as part of an integrated practice model in a collective manner
  • Role model Alpha House’s values and be a positive ambassador when interacting with the public, partners and businesses
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of all policies and procedures and ability to reference them from appropriate sources
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing
  • Minimum 2-3 years nursing in the addictions field
  • Computer literacy, including effective working skills of MS Word, Excel and Outlook required. Knowledge of WOLF EMR an asset
  • Time management skills, critical thinking skills, multitasking skills, and the ability to triage with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledgeable regarding the nursing process and its application, including the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care
  • A well-developed sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills, including respect and empathy.
  • High degree of resourcefulness, flexibility, and adaptability.
  • Knowledge of issues related to the socio-environmental determinants of health, in particular issues related to poverty and mental health and substance use disorder.
  • Team player with strong written and oral English communication skills
  • Have ethically responsible practices with staff and clients alike including a thorough understanding and appreciation of the Protection of Persons in Care Act
Position Requirements
  • Proof of being fully vaccinated for COVID-19
  • Proof of being a member in good standing with one of the following governing bodies in Alberta: CLPNA/CARNA/CRPNA
  • Be able to physically assist clients from prone to sitting or standing, and vice versa
  • Able to provide a Vulnerable Sector Search, valid within the last six months, that does not contain any results material to the position
  • FOIP Certification
  • Valid CPR
  • “It’s your Move” training, or equivalent Patient Lift training
  • Be able to tolerate strong odors
