Overview

Frontline Shelter Worker – Permanent, Full-Time. Wage $24.97 – $27.39/hour + wage enhancements. Manitoulin Family Resources requires 1 permanent, full-time Frontline Shelter Worker to support women and children in our emergency residence/shelter program. The Frontline Shelter Worker provides supportive counselling, crisis intervention, and advocacy to women and children residing at the shelter, as well as telephone counselling and support through crisis line coverage. As a single-staff model of operation in a residential environment, responsibilities pertaining to health and safety in a fast-paced atmosphere and household duties such as cooking and cleaning are required in addition to the provision of individual counselling, in-house client workshops, safety assessments, and navigation to other services.

Responsibilities
  • Provide supportive counselling, crisis intervention, and advocacy to women and children residing at the shelter.
  • Offer telephone counselling and support through crisis line coverage.
  • Maintain health and safety in a single-staff residential environment.
  • Perform household duties such as cooking and cleaning.
  • Provide individual counselling, in-house client workshops, safety assessments, and navigation to other services.
Qualifications
  • Relevant post-secondary education (degree or diploma), or a combination of education/experience working with victims of woman abuse.
  • Familiarity with client-led, trauma-informed services and harm reduction philosophy.
  • Excellent interpersonal, planning, and communication skills.
  • Experience with data entry and computer skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, cultural competency, and anti-racist/anti-oppressive frameworks.
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification, Food Handler’s Safety certificate, valid driver’s license, insurable driver’s abstract, clear Vulnerable Sector Screening, and proof of education.
  • Registration with the College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers is an asset, as is second language fluency in Ojibway and/or French.
  • Flexibility in scheduling to meet shelter needs, including nights and weekends; the position is 36.75 hours per week, averaged over the scheduling period, with pre-scheduled and on-call shifts.
