Job summary

METRO Food Basics Cambridge is seeking a Front End Clerk for a permanent part-time position at 100 Jamieson Pkwy, Cambridge. The wage starts at $16.60 per hour in line with the collective agreement, with potential increases based on experience.

Shifts include days, evenings, and weekends, with a welcoming and fast-paced store environment. You will greet customers, assist with locating products, process payments, manage cash, and help maintain a clean checkout area while supporting loyalty

Responsibilities

• Greet customers and assist with locating products.
• Address inquiries and resolve customer concerns.
• Handle customer complaints and resolve issues promptly.
• Scan items quickly and accurately.
• Process cash, credit/debit, and gift card payments.
• Process returned items and provide receipts.
• Offer assistance with loyalty programs or coupons.
• Maintain an accurate cash drawer.
• Perform cash drops and deposits as required.
• Balance the cash register at the end of the shift.
• Keep the checkout area clean and organized.
• Follow store policies and safety procedures.
• Report spills, hazards, or equipment issues to management.
• Work with team members to ensure smooth operations.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors and other departments.
• Assist with put-aways and returns.

Depending on a candidate’s relevant knowledge, skills, education, and prior experience, a higher hourly wage may be offered. Any hourly wage offered for this role, whether starting or higher, will fall within the wage scale established for this position in accordance with the collective agreement.

What You’ll Do:

• Process returned items.
• Provide receipts and any necessary change.

• Perform cash drops and prepare cash deposits as required.
• Balance the cash register at the end of the shift.
• Keep the checkout area clean and organized.
• Follow store policies and procedures to ensure safety and security.
