Technical Translator (French) / Technical Writer

Job Description

This position is intended to combine translation duties and technical writing.

  • Translates documents from English to French.
  • Ability to read and understand the context of mechanical information or will train.
  • Revise and proofread existing documents to ensure accuracy.
  • Establish and maintain a lexicon of technical terms and standardized grammar.
  • Familiar with specialized CAT tools (Déjà Vu) and specialized dictionaries (Termium) as references for translating and proofreading French text is an excellent asset to have.
  • Research, plan, create and revise technical documents using approved data from multiple sources.
  • Technical content being created or revised includes: service bulletins, installation instructions, operations and maintenance manuals.
Job Requirements / Qualifications
  • College diploma in technical communication; or equivalent experience.
  • Good planning, organizational, leadership, interpersonal, analytical, decision making, oral and written communication skills.
  • Shall have the ability to perform both individually and as part of a diverse team.
  • Consult with subject matter experts and other publication staff on writing and illustration requirements, production schedules, formatting specifications and delivery deadlines.
  • Knowledge of desktop translation and publishing software (Déjà Vu, InDesign, Frame Maker, Adobe Acrobat) and familiarity with Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator.
  • Exceptional research, grammatical and written communication skills, as well as excellent organizational and analytical skills.
  • Good computer skills. Open to learning new software specific to this role.

Candidate should possess some mechanical knowledge or an expressed interest.

  • Experience in project management an asset.
