Horizon Health Network in Fredericton, NB is seeking a Physician Assistant to join the Emergency Department team. The PA will work under a Primary Supervising physician and collaborate with multiple clinical supervisors to assess patients, order tests, and manage care plans.

The ideal candidate will be certified as a Physician Assistant, eligible for NB registration, and possess current BLS; ACLS is required or obtainable within 6 months, with ATLS preferred.

Qualifications

  • Must be certified as Physician Assistant and eligible for NB registration.
  • Current BLS required; ACLS certification or willingness to obtain within 6 months.
  • ATLS is an asset; experience in multidisciplinary teams preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate Emergency Department patients and order tests/imaging.
  • Develop treatment and discharge plans with Attending ED physicians.
  • Coordinate with allied health, nursing, and consultants.
  • Manage administrative tasks and maintain patient privacy.

Job description

Job Purpose

Horizon health Network has an immediate opportunity for a Physician Assistant. The Physician Assistant (PA) will be assigned to a Primary Supervising physician and will work with other Clinical Supervising Physicians as determined by the Chief of the department. The PA will function as a part of an interdisciplinary team and will engage in patient assessments, diagnostic workups, procedures, and management as determined by the Canadian Association of Physician Assistant Scope of Practice and National Competency Profile and the supervising physician. The degree of supervision and practice will be a product of assessment of competency of the PA by the physician and in accordance with existing regulation of Physician Assistant by the college of Physician Assistant and Surgeons of New Brunswick.

Qualifications
  • Must be certified either through the Physician Assistant Certification Council Canada or the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants from the United States.
  • Must be eligible for registration by the College of Physician Assistant and Surgeons of New Brunswick.
  • Must have current BLS (Basis Life Support).
  • Must have recent well rounded clinical experience and preferably been exposed to Emergency Medicine in the workplace or as part of clinical training.
  • Current ACLS (Advance Cardiac Life Support) certification or willing to obtain within 6 months.
  • ATLS (Advance Trauma Life Support) certification is an asset.
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary team environment is an asset.
  • Ability to fill open shifts on short notice.
  • Ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Good work record.
Key Responsibilities
