Job summary

Sportchek in Laval, QC is seeking a Franchise Buyer to manage key product categories and drive category objectives across banners. You will collaborate with the AVP Purchasing, negotiate with suppliers, pre-book quantities for ads, and lead pricing and promotions decisions.

The role requires 5+ years in sporting goods retail and 3+ years in buying, plus a college/university degree in Business Administration or related field. Bilingual (French/English) is required, with travel as needed.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in sporting goods retail or equivalent.
• At least 3 years of buying experience in sporting goods retail.
• College diploma or university degree in Business Administration or related field.
• Strong knowledge of the sporting goods retail market.
• Proven ability to negotiate with suppliers and franchisees.
• Willingness and ability to travel.

Responsibilities

• Provide purchasing recommendations for each franchise banner.
• Pre-select advertised product styles and determine category budgets.
• Negotiate supplier agreements and terms based on category volume.
• Coordinate product selection committees and franchisee presentations.
• Develop pricing and competitive positioning guidelines for product categories.
• Visit franchise stores and stay informed about market trends.
• Source and purchase promotional items for banners.
• Manage inventory levels, gross margins, and markdown strategies.
• Collaborate with Advertising on catalogs and promos.
• Support franchise stores and suppliers with customer service.
• Lead and develop an analyst on the team.
