Job summary

BIG BOY CONSTRUCTION INC. is seeking a construction assistant with 1 year to less than 2 years of experience. The role involves reading blueprints, estimating costs, and coordinating site work across various locations in Alberta, Canada.

Qualifications

• Secondary school graduation is required.
• 1 year to less than 2 years of construction experience.
• Ability to read blueprints, drawings and sketches.

Responsibilities

• Prepare estimates of labour and/or material costs.
• Read blueprints, drawings and sketches to determine work requirements.
• Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes, using measuring tools.
• Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials (wood, wood substitutes, steel).
• Build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring and erect walls and roof systems.
• Fit and install windows, doors, stairs, mouldings and hardware.
• Schedule and coordinate work on sites.
• Survey building locations and levels.
• Supervise other workers.
• Estimate costs and materials.
• Maintain, repair and renovate residences and wooden structures in mills, mines, hospitals, industrial plants and other establishments.
