Forest Area Manager, Northwest Ontario Woodlands

Domtar is seeking candidates for the position of Forestry Area Manager for our Northwestern Ontario Woodlands Operations.

The Forest Area Manager will be responsible for overseeing production and delivery of forest products as well as the operational planning, coordination and monitoring of wood harvest, road construction and road maintenance. The position also involves the supervision of staff and contract administration.

Your responsibilities:
  • Ensure that the highest Safety standards are met or exceeded throughout the Domtar operations
  • Serve as the primary contact and liaison with Domtar sawmill managers, Contractors and Stakeholders on the Forest
  • Manage the East operations staff and contractors to ensure a stable fibre supply to Domtar sawmills
  • Ensure compliance with all governmental and internal standards relative to safety, environment and utilization
  • Implement and manage departmental budgets to ensure good cost control systems
  • Manage fibre inventories to meet sawmill consumption requirements
  • Monitor and maintain annual operating and road plans to meet budget requirements
  • Maintain continuous improvement program to maximize productivity
  • Ensure compliance with all Collective Agreements and strive for cooperative working relationships
  • Maintain good working relationships with all governmental and public agencies, and stakeholders
  • Ensure staff, employees and contractors follow all necessary training and development programs
  • Promote team work within the Woodlands Operations Group
  • Be a leader for staff to encourage future growth within the Domtar Organization
Ideal profile:
  • 10 years relevant experience years’ experience in a variety of forestry related fields
  • Technical, College, University or related Forestry Program
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage a team, communicate with all levels of the organization and to adapt quickly to change
  • Strong analytical, organizational and problem solving skills
  • The ideal candidate will possess the drive and passion to continuously improve upon the health and safety, efficiency, production, and planning targets for Ontario Woodlands
  • In-depth knowledge of MS Office and solid computer skills
  • Strong attention to detail combined with the ability to see the big picture
