Job summary

The Davey Tree Expert Co. of Canada, Limited is seeking a Foreperson to lead a crew across multiple job sites in Pickering, Ontario. You will ensure work is completed safely, on time, and to a high standard while acting as the main client contact.

Responsibilities include directing crews and equipment, performing pruning/removal, and ensuring proper tool maintenance. ISA certification and driving license are preferred, with training and advancement opportunities offered.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years experience as an Arborist.
• ISA certification or enrollment in arboriculture program.
• Valid provincial driver’s license; 5-ton vehicle license with air brake endorsement is an asset.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Ability to safely direct a team and understand canopy work at all heights.
• Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
• Strong tree, knot and shrub identification skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead a crew safely and efficiently at various job sites.
• Direct crew members and equipment; plan and execute assigned tasks.
• Maintain and operate tools and equipment (chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts).
• Perform tree pruning and removal services safely and skillfully.
• Prune, thinning, and remove deadwood in canopies.
• Install cables, bracing and lightning protection as needed.
• Remove hazardous trees and provide expert inspections for clients.
• Manage customer service expectations and uphold safety policies.

Position Overview

As a Foreperson you will lead a team to various job sites throughout the week, ensuring the job is done right, on time and safely. You will be a subject matter expert providing guidance to the team and acting as a mentor for newer team members, assisting them in developing a better understanding of the Arboriculture profession. You will also work to provide an exceptional customer experience as the main point of contact for our clients.

Job Duties

• Safely and efficiently lead a crew in providing arboricultural care for our clients.
• Directs crew members and equipment as well as planning and executing the assigned work and tasks.
• Responsible to supervise and assist in the proper maintenance, preparation and operation of all tools and equipment including hand tools, chainsaws, chippers, and aerial lifts.
• Perform all aspects of tree pruning and removal services safely and skillfully for clients.
• Pruning, thinning, and removing deadwood throughout the tree canopy.
• Installation of cables, bracing and lightning protection systems.
• Removal of hazardous trees.
• Provide expert tree trimming services and inspections to client properties.
• Manage customer service expectations.
• Maintain Davey and industry safety policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• ISA certification or certificate of enrollment in an arboriculture program or equivalent.
• Valid provincial driver’s license. Licensed to drive a 5-ton vehicle and air brake endorsement considered an asset.

Additional Information

• Full time. Year-round employment.
• $25-$35/hour. Wage will be determined based on education, experience, and relevant qualifications or certifications. Certified arborists may be paid outside the pay range indicated.
