Job summary

Northern Health is seeking a dedicated Food Service Worker for a casual role at the Ksyen Regional Hospital. You will support cooks in meal preparation and tray assembly, ensuring accuracy and sanitation in a patient-focused kitchen environment.

Responsibilities include preparing meals, assisting with dietary therapy, serving staff, cash handling for meals, and keeping the kitchen clean. Candidates should have Grade 10 and relevant experience or equivalent training.

Qualifications

  • Grade 10 with one year related experience or equivalent education/training.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to interact effectively with others.
  • Physically able to perform duties and operate related equipment.
  • Ability to organize workload and prepare food items and trays.

Responsibilities

  • Assist cooks with blending, grinding, slicing, salads and desserts.
  • Prepare and portion patient or resident meals including therapeutic diets according to care plans.
  • Check trays for accuracy and set up staff meals; handle cash for items purchased.
  • Perform general cleaning and dishwashing; maintain sanitation standards.
  • Serve meals and support dietary services as needed.

Job description

Position Summary

We are currently looking for a hard working and dedicated Food Service Worker to fill a Casual position at the Ksyen Regional Hospital.

In accordance with the established mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities of Northern Health, and under the general supervision of Manager or designate, and working within the scope of Northern Health (NH) Regional Policies and Processes, the NH Regional Food Safety Plan and the NH Regional Food Sanitation Plan, this position assists the Cooks, blending, grinding, slicing, preparing salads, vegetables, sandwiches, and portioning desserts, measuring and combining food and beverage ingredients. Sets up and portions, with accuracy, patient trays and / or resident meals including therapeutic diet items according to nutrition care plans. Check patient trays to ensure accuracy. Prepares items such as tea, coffee and toast. Washes dishes, pots, pans, utensils and performs general cleaning. Serves staff meals and oversees the collection and receipt of cash for items purchased which may include punching meal tickets.

Qualfications
  • Grade 10 with one (1) year recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize work.
