The Food Service Worker I at Covenant Health Canada's St. Michael's Health Centre is responsible for setting up, delivering and retrieving patient meals per diet orders, and maintaining clean dishes and kitchen surfaces. You will stock supplies, communicate diet information to the kitchen, and support accuracy in therapeutic diets in a continuing care setting.

Reporting to the NFLES Supervisor, the Food Service Worker I is responsible for: Set up, delivery and pick up of patient and resident meals in compliance with the diet order. Dishwashing and storage of dishes. Regular and scheduled cleaning duties. Stocking and recording of food supplies to unit kitchens. Communication of diet information from the units to kitchen ensuring accurate and quality service. Understanding of therapeutic diets and their application, training provided. The provision of care in accordance with established operating standards, and the Mission, Vision, Values, policies and procedures of Covenant Health and St Michaels Health Centre. Interacting compassionately and respectfully with patients, residents, co-workers’ supervisors and managers. The Food Service Worker portions, packages and/or serves food items according to menu, diet protocol, and portion control and temperature standards within an acute care or continuing care setting. The position is also responsible for washing and putting away dishes and cleaning the kitchen and surfaces throughout the kitchen.

Completion of Grade 10 or recognized equivalent required.
Must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, fluent in English. Basic computer skills are necessary. Ability to work as part of a team and independently. Possess good time management skills, able to follow directions, work to deadlines and have attention for detail. Capable of meeting the physical demands of the position; able to stand for long periods of time and ability to occasionally lift at least 60 lbs. and possess the fortitude to work in a continuing care setting.
Previous food service experience in a care facility or an institutional setting, WHMIS, Food Safe Certification and Customer Service course work are all desired.
